The World Cup 2026’s final result will be remembered as one of the most tactical and hard-fought FIFA World Cup finals in recent history.

In front of more than 80,000 fans at the New York New Jersey Stadium in East Rutherford, we all saw Spain defeat Argentina 1-0 and lift their second World Cup trophy since 2010.

For 105 minutes, Argentina defended resiliently and their goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez competently frustrated the Spain players and their attacks. But in the 106th minute, the substitute Ferrran Torres became Spain’s hero, scoring the only goal of the match and ending Argentina’s hopes of defending their title.

Spain vs Argentina World Cup Final: Match Overview

The Spain vs Argentina World Cup final brought together two of the most internationally strong football teams.

Spain entered the match as European champions and one of the tournament’s most consistent sides, while Argentina made its entry as the defending world champions who were hoping to secure back-to-back World Cup titles after their triumph in 2022.

From the opening whistle, World Cup 2026’s final result showed that Spain controlled possession and dictated the tempo of the match to a huge extent. Lamine Yamal, Dani Olmo andRdori repeatedly created some amazing opportunities but Argentina’s defence was extremely strong.

First Half: Spain Take Control

Spain immediately established dominance because of their trademark passing game. Some of the earliest chances came fro:

  • Lamine Yamal
  • Dani Olmo
  • Fabian Ruiz

Argentina also largely focused on defensive organisation and they were actively ensuring that the World Cup 2026’s final result is on their side by frustrating Spain.

Argentina’s counterattack was excellent and Emiliano Martinez also had some game-changing defenses to ensure that Argentina stays on top.

Second Half: Argentina Hold Firm

Despite the World Cup 2026’s final result, Argentina defended with remarkable and wonderful discipline. Some of the main key defensive performances also came from:

  • Christian Romero
  • Lisandro Martinez
  • Nicolas Tagliafico
  • Emiliano Martinez

In this Spain vs Argentina world cup final, Spain also created multiple opportunities to find a breakthrough. Argentina failed to register a shot during normal time because Spain majorly had controlled the ball for long periods.

Enzo Fernandez Sent Off

Even though the World Cup 2026’s final result supported Spain, one of the biggest turning points of the match came when Argentina’s midfielder Enzo Fernandez received a second yellow card after a challenge on Pau Cubarsi.

They reduced the defending champions to ten men before the extra time began. This was the game-changing dismissal that ensured that Spain got a bigger advantage.

Ferran Torres’ Goal Sealed the Title

The defining moment of the World Cup 2026’s final result came in the 106th minute when Pedro Pollo delivered a cross into the penalty area, Nico Williams headed the ball back across goal and substitute Ferran Torres reacted to fire a first-time finish into the roof of the net.

Ferran Torres’ goal finally gave Spain what it had been working towards for so long and so hard. It silenced the Argentina fans because of disappointment and gave Spain its second world cup victory.

Spain’s Tactical Masterclass

Dominant possession

Spain controlled the ball for much of the match and prevented Argentina from building any attacking momentum.

Defensive Solidarity

Throughout the tournament, Spain also conceded only one goal in 8 matches and set a record for a World cup winning team.

Midfield Control

Rodri once again demonstrated why he is considered one of the world’s best midfielders and dictates play with calm distribution and intelligent positioning.

Impact Substitutions

Luis de la Fuente’s substitutions proved decisive with Nico Williams helping them create the winner and Ferran Torres scoring it.

Argentina’s Missed Opportunity

Argentina entered the final aiming to defend the title won in Qatar four years earlier. Despite them hoping that the World Cup 2026’s final result would be on their side because of the defense and resilience – they did struggle to create some attacking chances.

Lionel Messi, in what some think is his final World Cup appearance found some little space against Spain and their organised defense. Argentina;s inability to generate sustained attacks also just proved to be costly.

Writing an author’s biography is one of the hardest things and, somehow, always an afterthought. We spend a lot of time crafting the literature but very little on our personal branding. But, in many cases, a reader in a bookstore will look at three or four things at best before deciding to purchase your book
