The Forza Horizon 6 is a much anticipated open-world racing video game that comes under the Forza Horizon series. Known to be one of the best racing games in 2026, it extends the Forza Horizon franchise after the 5th edition. According to sources, the Forza Horizon 6 review is set with different locales modeled on real-world geography and an international design that’s perfect for various terrains, obstacles, challenges and weather patterns too.

The game continues the hallmark pattern of the Forza Horizon which combines real-life simulation-grade vehicle handling with super accessible arcade-style fun! In this game, the players collect points and then customize their cars after which they race hundreds of cars in different environments.

After years of speculation, leads, endless requests by fans and a lot of patience, Forza Horizon 6 has finally come and it’s probably the most ambitious out of all the segments and editions. The coolest part about it? It’s set across different places of Japan and features neon-lit Tokyo streets, countryside highways, cherry-blossom routes, mountainous terrains and even coastal racing highways. But beyond all of this, the main question that the fans have is – does Forza Horizon 6 really go above and beyond after the 5th edition?

What made the Forza Horizon games so big?

The horizon series always stood apart and taller than the other video games – maybe it was because of its hyper-realism, challenges, accessibility for the world, deep car customisation, open-world exploration or just its music festival culture within the game.

Every single edition had its own theme and own country-influenced backdrops that made it so much more fun.

  • Forza Horizon: Colorado festival atmosphere
  • Forza Horizon 2: European coaster freedom
  • Forza Horizon 4: Dynamic seasons and also parts of Britain
  • Forza Horizon 5: Huge mexican landscapes

But having a Japanese themed edition was something that the fans and audience always wanted. And in 2026, Playground games finally went all in and aced every detail.

The biggest strength here: the Japan Map:

This is of course and unquestionably the star of the game – not just because it’s what the players wanted, but also because of its hyper realism and versatile landscapes.

The map combines dense Tokyo urban racing followed by mountain drift roads where your skills will be challenged like never before. You thought the 5th edition was difficult? Wait till you enter the industrial dockyards and rain-soaked highways all within seconds. The reason it stands out so much is because the versatility and variety of the environment is far richer than what we saw in the previous editions.

At night especially – the game becomes visually absurd and you can see how much effort the developers have put into creating this edition that’s both mind-bending and adrenaline-pumping.

The neon reflections and wet asphalt lighting are definitely the stars of the show when it comes to night racing. The Forza Horizon 6 review of 2026 mentioned that the traffic density and realism factors like cherry blossoms on the road add in a feeling of living an automotive fantasy.

What improvements have the Playground Games made?

According to the Forza Horizon reviews 2026, the Forza 6 gameplay will be unique, challenging, visually stimulating and will keep you on the edge of your seat.

It has much better progression now:

One of the main criticisms of the Forza 5th edition was that it handed the players everything way too quickly. After a while, players felt like they were just not being challenged the right way. FH6 has more structure and better event spacing. They heard your criticisms and changed their gameplan by adding a stronger sense of progression. This makes earning cars even more meaningful.

They have improved car audio:

The Forza Horizon 6 reviews of 2026 say that the engine sounds appear to be noticeably upgraded and more realistic. The cars will now have a deeper tuning variation so when you accelerate – you know it’s more real than your actual car. They have made it more mechanically “alive” and distinct enough for you to be blindfolded and tell which car is which.

Festival playlist changes:

Playground Games also addressed one of Horizon 5’s biggest and most annoying frustrations – FOMO (fear of missing out). Now, the missed playlist-executive cars return through this new system and feature called the “Aftermarket Cars” which definitely makes the whole game better.

So, what are the weaknesses here:

At its core, the game still feels familiar so for those who have spent hours on it – they might get bored easily. Secondly, they also have customisation limits – so you do not really have all the creative freedom yet because there are limited underglow options and missing tuning features too.

Best cards in Forza Horizon 6:

With a whooping 550 cars at launch, you have way too many options to choose from. But there still exist stronger and better options that you can aim to unlock one fine day.

The best overall car: Mercedes-AMG ONE

One of the best all-around S2 class cars, it offers you incredible acceleration and is balanced with features and style. You get high-speed stability and finally understand why horsepower and horses are connected. It has a strong cornering and the best? You can unlock it early if you have enough loyalty points.

The best drifter: Nissan Silvia S15

For Forza to be set in Japan, it is obvious that it will include drift culture too. The S15 dominates because of its lightweight chassis, smooth transitions and a massive tuning flexibility which will be perfect for mountainous or treacherous routes like that.

Best JDM hero car: Toyota Supra MK4

Of course – this option had to be here. The Supra, as everyone knows, is fast, highly adaptable, moddable and it is the perfect choice for both drag and street racing. Driving a Supra through Tokyo at night is a dream of many – which is exactly the fantasy FH6 was built around.

Best off-road car – Ford Bronco Raptor

Japan’s map is not simply cities and street racing on well-developed roads. It also has forests and mud trails. The Raptor is the best option here because it handles such terrains well with the stability of an elephant while maintaining it at high speeds as wll. It works wonderfully in seasonal weather shifts as well.

Release date and platforms:

It is set to release on May 19th, 2026 on XBox series X/S and PC.

It will be released in PS5 later in 2026.
